My sister is the most amazing dancer in the world!!!

My amazing, gorgeous, graceful, sweet sister was chosen to be the sterling scholar for dance from her high school!! She has worked so hard for years and spends at least three hours, 5-6 days a week dancing. She endures blisters, broken toenails, bruises, lack of sleep, and many other painful things to be the best dancer posible. She came to Idaho Falls and performed the Nutcracker with a group up here and I loved watching her performance!! I also can't wait to see her dance next weekend down in Utah.

And the maid. This year she's in lots of parts, one of them being a parent at the party. I'm excited because that means she's on stage for a long time, in a pretty dress and ringlets.

Ok, I'm done bragging. I'm so excited for her that I just couldn't help myself!

Out of the mouth of babes

May 2018: Kaylie: "So the Frog lady, she's like a real person, but also a frog. She got the rocks out of another frog by patting him.
August 2017: Kaylie: "Mom, you're close to dead cuz you are an old woman. Like almost 16"
July 2017: Trevor had many questions about who gets to pick their last name. I explained that usually when two people get married, the woman takes the man's last name. He said- "but I want to pick my last name. I pick Trevor Arlen Zipzap" He has referred to himself by that name for several weeks since.
July 2017: Trevor loves Newsies and asked what Seize the day means. I explained it and later he was wanting to swim but kept delaying. I said "Trevor just seize the day and go swim." His response was: "Eh, I'll seize the day tomorrow."
July 2017: We were talking about hiking to Timp Cave some day. Trevor overheard and said: "you want me to hike? No way!! I have walked and walked so much all day long. Tomorrow I'm going to stay in bed and sleep all day!"
June 2017: Trevor's note to his uncle Jared who was in Officer's training: "I have camouflage clothes too just like you! I have a baby. His name is Baby Lincoln. I hope if you go in a battle you don't die because I like you. My favorite book is Secret Spelling Book of Elena. She is a princess who rules Avalor. It's a show too. You should watch it sometime when you're not doing push-ups. I love you."
June 2017: Nana took Trevor and Kaylie for a walk after Lyla got on the bus. Trevor wanted her to catch up to the bus which was driving away down the street so he said "If you have courage and believe in yourself, you can catch the bus!"

March 2017: Kaylie refused to sit and eat dinner, saying "I'm Moana and Moana doesn't eat food- she just drinks coconut milk." After awhile I talked to hear about how important it is to obey and she said: "But I'm Moana and she doesn't obey. Her dad said no one goes beyond the reef but Moana disobeyed and went outside it."- I had no response. She had a good point...
February 2017: Kaylie loves to call someone in the bathroom for a "chat" when she's in there- today during our chat she said, "I love to play family with you. You be the mom, I'll be the older sister- (in a whisper) don't tell Lyla!!! And Lyla will be the kid."
February 2017: After 2 days off of school because of snowy weather, Trevor said: "I wrote a note to Jack Frost. He's going to make lots of ice tonight so that school is cancelled again. Hehe."
January 2017: Lyla at bedtime: "we go straight from being wild and crazy into bedtime, and Trevor and Kaylie are champions at falling asleep! But I don't have that gift- I have to lay very still for 5, sometimes even 10 minutes."
November 2016: Trevor to his church teacher before we announced our pregnancy: "My mommy is feeling really sick but I can't tell you why until it comes out."
November 2016: Trevor to Kaylie who was crying, wanting to get up before it was time: "Kaylie, you are sad because you want to wake up but your heart still wants to sleep." Then he sweetly kissed her.
October 2016: It's hard to resist constantly kissing Kaylie and we will often say: "Can't I just kiss you all day??" She always laughingly protests: "No! I have to go to sleep! I would be too tired!"
October 2016: On the way to the flu shot clinic, Trevor was scared and crying but Kaylie was excited and said: "I can't wait for my shot! I want them to give me lots of shots!" Then after, Trevor was so excited that it hadn't hurt so he kept saying: "I love shots! I want to come get a shot every day!!"
September 2016: 6 year old Lyla turned to me and sweetly said: "Mother, couldn't I please read in bed tonight so I can increase my fluency?"
August 2016 Trevor: "When Jesus comes again then Satan will be tied up. Then all of the mean animals will be nice even T-rex's so I can ride them!"
August 2016 Lyla: (In a very dramatic voice) "Do I feel so left out all the time because I wasn't supposed to be in this family?"
August 2016 Trev: "When I'm a daddy, I actually don't want to go to work with dad. I want to stay home."
Mom: "What will you do?"
Trev: "Oh, I'll help you if there are hard things you have to do. Or I guess maybe I'll go to work...I know! I'll work from home."
June 2016 Trev had a cold and was coughing a lot. Kaylie (in a very exasperated voice): "Trevor!! You coughed on my car seat! Now it's going to get sick. Grrr!"
May 2016 Trevor: "Oh no! I spilt jam on my Mariners shirt! What if daddy thinks I'm cheering for the red team now? Hurry and help me clean it off!"
May 2016 Mom: "Trevor, do you want to play at Kelsey's house tomorrow?" Trevor: "Is tomorrow a school day?" Mom: "No" Trevor: "Well then I can't. I only have play dates on school days."
April 2016 Trevor gave mom a kiss and she turned so it landed on her lips which we normally avoid so we aren't always spreading germs. Trev: "Mom, we kissed on the lips!! Now we're going to get married! But what about Dad- you'll have two!"
Jan 2016 Trev: "Mom, I started having a bad dream last night, but then I changed it to one of the cds in my head" Mom: "You have cds in your head, huh?" Trev: "Yep, I have lots like Inside Out but I don't have Incredibles or Word world" Later: "Trevor, how do you know so much about Star Wars? Did you watch some of the movie somewhere?" Trev: "It's one of my cds in my head! I watched it there!"
Jan 2016 Trev: "Have you tried this chicken?"
Lyla: "No, it's gross!!"
Trev: "Well if you don't try it then you'll never know
it's yummy. I thought it was gross too until I tried it."
Jan 2016 Trevor was throwing a fit and Kaylie let out a huge sigh and said "Oh Trevor. What we do with you?"
Oct 2015 Trevor: "Dad, I will miss you so much, but I NEED to go to Utah with Nana and Papa. Don't worry, it will be a long time like 100 days, but I'll come back"
Oct 2015 Trevor: "Mom, what are those?"
Mom: "Those are stars"
Trevor: "You guys!! We found the stars!!" (apparently we need to let him stay up past bedtime more often, he was completely overjoyed at his discovery)
Summer 2015 Kaylie often refers to herself as "baby princess"
August 2015 Trevor: "Sometimes Lyla is right, and sometimes I am right, but Kaylie is never right. She is always wrong."
July 2015 Trevor: "I can't leave blanket here. He loves me. He will miss me."
April 2015 Trevor: "Daddy will you carry me downstairs? My legs have no more walking left in them"
Feb 2015 Trevor: "I love toothpicks!! They're what I dream about at night in my bed!"
Feb 2015 Trev hits Lyla who then starts "crying". Dad- "Lyla, I think you're ok. Don't fake cry" Lyla: "It's hard to start real crying!"
Feb 2015 Lyla watched Trev climb up high on some furniture and then he couldn't climb back down. She came running to me saying: "Mom! Come quick. It's an emergency! It might be a fire or something!" I guess she's gotten used to me not responding very quickly so had to find a way to get my attention.
Jan 2015 Trev: "My blanket just hit me. He's in time out. Now he's taking a nap, a long one!! Oh, I hear him crying- I better run up and get him." Lyla: "Yeah, and make sure he gets a consequence. What toy does he like?" Trev: "he likes me." Lyla: "What else?" Trev: "Toothless, and the flashlight. Ouch, he just hit me again. He hit me again!!" Lyla: "Ok, so tell him he loses Toothless for 3 days" Trev: "How about 7 days?" Lyla: "Should we do 10 days!!? Ok let's go talk to him about how we don't hit"
Jan 2015 Lyla on the phone with Paul: "Today has been so busy! First we woke up and did the dishwasher, then we ate and got dressed, then school and then we ate lunch. Then while the kids napped we played, played, played, then rode bikes, cleaned up, took a bath and had dinner. I'm just so busy!"
January 2015 Trevor was watching the Bishop guys playing basketball. "Daddy, why aren't you playing?" Paul: "I got out." Trevor: "Why?" Paul: "Because I didn't play well enough." Trevor: "Next time play better daddy!"
January 2015 We were discussing Lyla and she overheard. She came over and asked what we were saying. Paul said: "we were talking about what to do with all of your cuteness." Lyla with hands on hips: "Hey! My cuteness comes from Heaven!"
January 2015 Trevor: Um, I have an itsy bitsy problem. I can't get my shirt on.
January 2015 Trevor: "Dad, is this a sad day for me?"
Dad: "No, why?"
Trevor: "My tummy hurts"
Dec 2014 Tiffany: “Mary and Joseph were such kind, loving parents to baby Jesus”
Lyla: “Are you kind and loving parents?”
Tiffany: “Well, what do you think? We try to be.”
Lyla: “Yeah, but you just can’t be”
Dec 2014 Lyla: “Trevor, you hide right here and I’ll count and see if I can find you
Trevor: “Okay. I’ll stay right here.”
Trevor: “Daddy, my turn to hide here. Come find me.”
Dec 2014 Tiffany: “Trevor, you need to eat all your dinner.” Trevor: “Shhhh Mommy. I’m thinking of what treat I will eat. I think it will be a cookie.”
Nov 2014: Tiffany: "Trevor, remember to think of Jesus during the Sacrament"
Trevor: "No! I like Satan!" (Screamed for all to hear)
August 17, 2014 Cassidy said "Hi cute buns" to Trevor and he replied "No Cass, I am not cute buns. My cute buns are covered up now!"
August 2014 Question to Lyla: How many kids do Jared & Allison want? Response: 14 1/2
June 2014 I had my hair up but then took it down to curl it for church. Lyla walked in with a horrified expression and said "Mom, your hair is not perfect anymore! I will not sit with you at church or do anything with you if you don't have perfect hair"
March 2014 Lyla & Paul have had several discussions about the words to the song "Let it Go" from our new favorite movie Frozen- Lyla insists that instead of saying "A kingdom of isolation" it says "A Kingdom of yusilation" (No idea what that means...) When the kids earned the movie and we sat down to watch it, Lyla turned to Paul and said "Put your ears on and listen so you can hear that it says yusilation and not isolation."
March 2014 Every night when Paul puts Trevor to bed, after reaching up for a goodnight hug and kiss, Trev says: "We need to wash your pokies off" because of the hair growing on his face.
February 2014 Trevor woke up and immediate started saying "Mom, let's go play at Doc McDonalds!!" He and Lyla love the show Doc McStuffins so to him, Doc goes with anything that starts with Mc.
January 2014 I was combing Lyla's hair and she said, "Mom that hurts! Here let me show you how a princess likes her hair combed."
December 2013 Lyla didn't like something I asked her to do so she turned to me and yelled "Mom, I'm not a child! I can do what I want! You can choose for you and for Kaylie, I can choose for me." Oh boy- teenage years may kill me.
November 2013 After meeting the girl Tyson is dating and Alyssa's guy, Lyla prayed that "Alyssa can marry her friend and Tyson will get true love's kiss"
August 2013 Whenever someone sneezes Lyla will say "Kaylie just 'bless you-ed'"
June 2013 Trevor started saying hi to everyone and when he saw Nana he kept saying "Hi Nan." Now that has become her name- he calls her "Hi Nan" instead of Nana.
July 13, 2013 We were invited to a BBQ with some friends and Lyla spent all day picking out her "fancy outfit" to wear. She turned to me at one point and said "Mom, this is what I'm going to wear to the ketchup tonight!" (She uses both BBQ sauce and Ketchup to dip chicken in...so I guess she mixed the two up.)
Jan 1, 2013 Paul was helping Lyla pick out some tights to wear to church. He gave her some and she said she didn't like them. He said to just go look in the mirror. She came back and said "Daddy, I went and looked in the mirror and it said 'that doesn't look very cute on you."
Jan 7, 2013 Paul was watching a football game and Lyla went up to him and said "Daddy, you just need to follow your heart!"
Nov 19, 2012 We were getting ready to go the the hot tub and Lyla said "If you go potty in the pool, then the dragons will come get you."
Nov 10, 2012 Paul was driving and realized he forgot something so he said, "Oh no!" and Lyla immediately said in a very concerned voice "What happened daddy? Did you go potty in your pants?"
Sept 23, 2012 Watching General Conference: When Pres Monson got up for his first talk Lyla said "Mom, he's talking to me!" and when he was done she turned to the screen and said "You did a great job President Monson!"
Sept 10, 2012 Sometimes on our morning walks I drape a blanket down to keep the sun out of the kids' eyes. This morning it was windy so the blanket blew onto Lyla and she said "Mom! You're trying to make me a pirate!"
Sept 7, 2012 I told Lyla that some books were coming in the mail so we were waiting for the mailman to come. Lyla asked "Does the mailbox have toes so it can walk?" She kept calling him the mailbox and couldn't quite understand that it's actually a person who brings our mail.
Aug 28, 2012 I took Lyla visiting teaching with me to be my companion and she didn't want to sit in her carseat on the way back. I helped her in and explained why she has to sit there, and she said "When I'm a little bigger, I'll drive and you will sit in the back Mom"
Aug 26, 2012 Paul had just left for one of his many sports activities and Lyla turned to me with a sad expression and said "I wish daddy would have fun playing at home sometimes"
Aug 24, 2012 We were driving and saw a man outside walking and Lyla said "When I'm older I'll be a man." No idea where that came from!!
Aug 21, 2012 I was helping Lyla wash her hands and she yelled "Mom don't fall me!" instead of don't let me fall.
July 4, 2012 Lately Lyla has insisted on using a sippy cup lately instead of a cup and today she said "My sippy cup is screaming 'Lyla needs to drink me!!"
June 19, 2012 When Lyla woke up this morning, she turned to me and said "I'm not crying, but I'm just a little bit sad."
-When it snows Lyla will look out the window at how white it all looks and say "Let's go wash it off"
-A nickname I sometimes use is Lyla-boo and she's adopted that for the rest of us: we are now Trevor-boo, Daddy-boo, and Mommy-boo. It's so hilarious the way she says it, she'll be completely serious and say something like "Mommy, I'm
sad because I wanted to help sing to Trevor-boo" or my favorite is when she's mad and screaming at me like "Mommy-boo I want marshmallows!" It's nice in these situations because she makes me smile instead of me getting frustrated that she's yelling at me.
-Lyla wears dresses everyday and several times a day I catch her looking in the mirror and saying "Lyla's so pretty!" She also often says "mommy's so pretty" and gets out of any trouble she's in.
-Another nickname I sometimes use for Lyla is "suzie" because for some reason my mom used to call us that when we were younger. She has a friend named Suzie so whenever I call her that, she says "Not Suzie, name's Lyla"
-I love going to Zumba classes and sometimes I take Lyla with me. She gets so excited and says "we're going to umza!"
-When she sees her friends' moms, she'll say: "There's mommy's Allie" or "mommy's Mercedez"
-Anytime I ask her why she did something she laughs and says: "Cuz I'm being silly"
-For some reason Lyla has started saying "Trevor's little, Lyla's little, daddy's little, and mommy's big!"
-The other night she was taking a bath and she got a shy look on her face, then looked up at me and said "Mom, I just don't deserve you!"
- On Sundays, Lyla wakes up so excited for church and to see her friends. All morning she says "Let's go to church so I can see my kids."
- We were at a restaurant and Lyla looked outside and saw the trees blowing in the wind. She turned to me and said "Look Mom! The trees are dancing!"
- Lyla is always talking about being a big girl and if we say something like "you're such a sweet girl" then
she'll correct us by saying "no, I'm a big girl!" The other day she started asking me to carry her so I reminded her that she's a big girl. She quickly responded "no, I'm little!"
